Alexa Young Modern Art

It's me. Hi. I'm Alexa Young. In recent years, after spending several decades working in the publishing industry as an author, journalist, and magazine editor, I immersed myself in other creative pursuits, which involved taking classes, visiting countless craft shops, and digging through various art supplies and trinkets I'd either collected during my travels or inherited from my parents.​

At the height of the pandemic in 2020, I tried my hand at painting with acrylics and oils on canvas and wood, beginning with abstract images and whimsical takes on album covers thanks to my love of music (I worked in that industry for the better part of the 1990s). Later, I discovered a passion for fluid pour painting. Thrilled with the results, I began gifting these masterpieces to friends and family. Enough of them ended up on other people's walls that I created a little online storefront called Alexa Young Modern Art.

More recently, when my nephew was heading off for a semester abroad in Dublin, I was inspired to locate a stash of coins I'd accumulated during my own studies and holidays in Ireland beginning in the late 1980s. I wanted to give him some of the copper pieces that were no longer in circulation, since the country had adopted the euro in 2002, hoping they'd bring him a bit of luck on his journey. I soon began sourcing tools, delicate chains, leather cords, and additional materials that would allow me to turn the coins into necklaces. They came out out so beautifully that I dubbed them Lucky Coin Jewelry and once again began gifting them to loved ones.
